trio

The pics above were taken from JM's Myspace.com account. They are rare snaps of him in his old band back in 1974. HeHe.

Saw the John Mayer Trio at the Warfield Theater last night. I had a great time. It's my first time seeing the Trio but I had seen John Mayer before. There were some technical difficulties in the beginning. John vocal levels kept getting changed. One minute he'd be drowned out by the music the next he'd be so loud that he sounded distorted. A couple of songs into his set, he finally talked with the some crew guys and they worked out the problems in the next few songs.

Technical difficulties aside, it was a phenomenal show. John seemed really in his element up there on stage with Steve Jordan and Pino Palladino. When I first heard about the Trio, I was skeptical. I've been kind of a die hard fan of his band that I couldn't see this next step. I was kind of crushed that he left his other members behind and started new with other people. Even when I got in some of the trades, I still couldn't see it. I heard good music but I wasn't " feelin' " the change. I wasn't sold on the Trio. I even watched his interview with Matt Pinfield, when he tried to explain the new challenges the Trio presented him with and the new heights he felt his music reaching. I really couldn't see it.

I was blind but now I see... All of that changed last night. I saw the pure elation in his face in the first few notes Everyday I Have the Blues (the opening song) and I knew he was going to take me somewhere I'd never seen him before. I fell hook, line and sinker for the John Mayer Trio. He looked more at home on that stage than I'd ever seen him. Maybe it was the fact that he's a veteran now, but I don't think that was it. I think it was that he was having fun and doing what John wanted to do. His guitar playing was better than ever. I could feel his life and his emotion with each strum. So needless to say I am convinced. I can see now how he has evolved. Evolving may cause us to part company with dear old friends. But for better times and better music, I can truly say... lead the way "Brother" John and I will follow.

And this was WITH technical difficulties....

Christmas

Just popped in to share with you the lyrics to perhaps my favorite holiday song.

Christmas Time Is Here
Written by Vince Guaraldi, Lee Mendelson

Christmas time is here
Happiness and cheer
Fun for all that children call
Their favorite time of the year

Snowflakes in the air
Carols everywhere
Olden times and ancient rhymes
Of love and dreams to share

Sleigh bells in the air
Beauty everywhere
Yuletide by the fireside
And joyful memories there

Christmas time is here
We'll be drawing near
Oh, that we could always see
Such spirit through the year
Oh, that we could always see
Such spirit through the year...

Have a Merry Christmas everyone and good wishes to everyone through the New Year.

information

Well I am at a loss for things to write so I will implore you, my readership, to ask me questions. Ask me anything. I may use your question as an entire entry. If I do, you will receive credit and a mention. No topic is off limits I guess(I think?). Try to keep it PG-13, people. habits

So I was tagged by Rekkid and it's really late but here goes.

My 5 Weird Habits
  1. I am a piece-eater: Except for Chinese and Filipino food, I will eat each part of my meal separately. I will eat the fries then eat the burger. I will eat the potatoes, then the veggies and then the steak. In the case of the exceptions, the routine is generally rice with a little bit of meat/entree. For example, a piece of mongolian beef with white rice is one mouthful.

  2. I like to touch things: I am a Tactile Learner. I have come to accept this as a fact for me. I learn best when I am doing what I'm learning. I will touch things as a first instinct. When I was in bake shop, the chef/teacher was not very happy with me putting my hands on every piece of dough that came across my table and every ingredient that I used.

  3. I pick up conversations down the road with no warning: I'll be having a conversation with you and during a lull I'll pipe up with something totally unrelated. It's usually because I've been mulling over a topic we were talking about in my head and I have more to say on that. It's kind of unnerving to people who aren't used to talking to me. Most of the time, I can keep a linear conversation and I'll warn you most of the time if I'm switching gears but sometimes I'll just hop conversations.

  4. I bring knives wherever I go: I have this knife set. It's always in my car. Many people in foodservice would probably think this is not weird but a lot of my friends do. I have this thing about using other people's knives so I carry my own.

  5. I have this weird tendency of falling for my friends' interests: I have had crushes on any of my friends' crushes and girlfriends. I can't explain why I do this. I just do sometimes. I chalk it up to me and my friends having such similar tastes that they even run into our tastes in women. I've never acted upon these infatuations without discussing it with my friends beforehand. I think I've only ever lost one friend because of it. It was in high school and I chose to stay friends with the girl instead of my friend whom she dated and eventually broke up with. It was kind of shitty of me. I 'm still good friends with the girl now but I don't think I would've stayed friends with him. I guess I'll never know though.

So there you they are, very late, but I did finish and since I know no one that blogs ( that hasn't already been tagged and/or hasn't done this meme) I can't REALLY tag anyone... but on the hopes that they start their own blogs someday I will tag James, Tim, Dorothy, Chris (my cousin) and Julie.

memories

I had a great time playing this over at Rekkid's blog so I'm posting this here.

The instructions are as follows:

1. Reply to this post, and I'll tell you one reason why I like/love/adore you. Then put this in your own journal, and spread the love.

AND

2. If you read this, if your eyes are passing over this right now, please post a comment with a COMPLETELY MADE UP AND FICTIONAL memory of you and me. It can be anything you want -- good or bad -- BUT IT HAS TO BE FAKE. When you're finished, post this little paragraph on your blog and be surprised (or mortified) about what people DON'T ACTUALLY remember about you.
